Am Herculis Binaries in the Rosat Era
The current census of AM Herculis binaries and AM Her candidates exceeds 50 systems of which 29 are ROSAT discoveries. The increased number provides a basis to study the more general properties of the class. We discuss the space density, observations relevant to the evolution of magnetic CVs, the statistics of magnetic eld measurements, and current ideas on the accretion scenarios.
متن کاملMagnetic field and unstable accretion during AM Herculis low states
A study of AM Her low states in September 1990 and 1991 and June-July 1997 is reported from a coordinated campaign with observations obtained at the Haute-Provence observatory, at the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory and at the 2.6m and 1.25m telescopes of the Crimean observatory. Spectra obtained at different dates when the source was in low states at a comparable V magni...
متن کاملEclipsing binaries in ASAS catalog
ASAS is a long term project to monitor bright variable stars over the whole sky. It has discovered 50,122 variables brighter than V < 14 mag south of declination +28◦, and among them 11,099 eclipsing binaries. We present a preliminary analysis of 5,384 contact, 2,957 semi-detached, and 2,758 detached systems. The statistics of the distribution provides a qualitative confirmation of decades old ...
متن کاملEclipsing Binaries in Open Clusters
Detached eclipsing binaries are very useful objects for calibrating theoretical stellar models and checking their predictions. Detached eclipsing binaries in open clusters are particularly important because of the additional constraints on their age and chemical composition from their membership of the cluster. I compile a list containing absolute parameters of wellstudied eclipsing binaries in...
متن کاملPrecovery of Eclipsing Binaries: Identifying Eclipse Timing Variation among Kepler Eclipsing Binaries in KELT
The Asakura-Oosawa (AO) model describes the effective attractive interaction induced when two large colloidal bodies are immersed in a solvent consisting of smaller macromolecules. The effective interaction is induced due to an unbalanced osmotic pressure arising from the depletion of the macromolecules in the region between the two bodies. We model amelogenin, a hydrophobic protein and with a ...
